Contacts are the people who wrote to you through a form. They are identified by their email and stored encrypted.
How they are created#
- The first submission with a new email creates the contact and saves its first conversion: the date, the page, and the channel and campaign it came from.
- Every later submission is a reconversion: it updates the contact and keeps the source of that moment.
- Email, name and phone come from the fields with those names, or from what you choose in the form’s Contact tab. The rest is kept as extra data.
The contact page#
When you open a contact you see their details, their submissions and, from the Growth plan:
- The channel, source and medium, and the campaign of their first conversion.
- Their visit history, from the latest visit to the first: how many pages they saw, whether they opened WhatsApp, sent forms or bought, and which campaign each visit was credited to.
The source is saved on every plan. If you upgrade to Growth, your earlier contacts already show where they came from.
Export to CSV#
In Contacts, click Download CSV. The file has every visible contact and their details, ready for Excel or Google Sheets.
Monthly quota#
Each plan includes a number of new contacts a month. Over the quota, new contacts are still saved but stay hidden until you upgrade: a quota never costs you a customer.
Delete a contact#
Deleting a contact also deletes their submissions, which hold the same data. It cannot be undone. If a customer asks your store to erase their data, Shopify notifies the app and it is deleted automatically.
